The woman was taken from the water park to a nearby hospital. While at the hospital, she was treated for a blood clot in her brain. The clot is thought to have been from hitting her head on the hospital slide.

Later that night, the woman was pronounced dead. The medical examiner ruled the death as an accidental blunt force trauma to the head. It is not known which slides she rode at the water park.

A firefighter heading to his station witnessed a horrific accident. In the accident, 4 passenger vehicles were trapped by an 18-wheeler. One of the vehicles was trapped by the 18-wheeler’s cab and burst into flames.

Fortunately for the driver of the burning car, the wind was blowing the flames, which were mainly on the passenger side, away from the car. This made it safer for the driver’s rescuers, including the firefighter, to remove her from the car. Shortly after the woman was removed from the burning vehicle, the fire spread to the truck’s cab.

The driver of the burning car was seriously burned and Med Flighted to a hospital in Madison. The rescuers were not harmed and neither were the occupants of the 18-wheeler.

A report released by the New Jersey Public Advocate’s Office details the shortcomings of the state’s lead poisoning prevention measures. According to the year-long study, the state’s methods were “inadequate” and “ripe for negligence and fraud.” It goes on to point out that the risk of lead poisoning is still unacceptably high in many NJ communities, particularly older, low-income neighborhoods.

The study attributes many of NJ’s problems to an approach which focuses on treating symptoms after-the-fact, instead of actively working to prevent lead poisoning in the first place.

Lead is a metal commonly found in the paint and plumbing of older homes. It is known to cause serious neurological disorders in children, as well as coma and death in severe cases.

The family of a 14-year-old student who almost drowned in a school swimming pool last fall has filed a $10 million personal injury lawsuit against the school district.

Jerry Pham, a student at Milpitas High School, allegedly suffered brain damage as a result of a near-death ordeal in the school’s swimming pool. According to the lawsuit, the school was negligent in failing to identify Pham as a non-swimmer. Furthermore, claims the suit, the teacher in charge of the pool, Kristina Edwards, failed to adequately respond to the situation, leaving Pham at the bottom of the pool while she radioed for help in a panic. Pham was finally brought to the surface by the efforts of a fellow student who was able to dive to the bottom of the pool.

Pham’s family alleges that the negligent conduct of the Milpitas Unified School District and Kristina Edwards caused serious and permanent brain damage, and is seeking damages for past and future medical and economic expenses.

A lawsuit filed against the Boy Scouts of America by a former Boy Scout leader has been appealed to the Ohio Supreme Court, after a lower appeals court upheld the dismissal of the case based on the state’s statute of limitations.

Cheryl Swanson sued the Boy Scouts organization in March 2007, claiming that she suffered traumatic brain injuries in 2002 as a result of her participation in a sponsored activity. The court dismissed Swanson’s case, saying that the 2-year statute of limitations had already lapsed. Swanson, who is representing herself, is determined to prove that the Boy Scouts organization was at fault.

A wrongful death lawsuit was filed earlier this week by the widow of a man shot by two Sheriff’s deputies in July of 2008. The lawsuit claims that deputies Greg Kade and John Hajash responded inappropriately to a disturbance complaint against John Webb early in the morning on July 4, which said that Webb was playing excessively loud music and firing his AK-47 rifle. The deputies arrived on scene over 30 minutes after the AK-47 discharge had taken place. According to the suit, the two officers approached the house under cover, hiding their presence and failing to identify themselves as police officers before shooting Webb.

Mrs. Mary Webb’s wrongful death lawsuit seeks compensation for mental anguish, loss of income, emotional distress, and negligence on the part of the Sheriff’s department, among other claims.
