New Jersey Man Sues Township Over Fall Injury

April 17th, 2008 · No Comments

A lawsuit filed by an elderly Montgomery, N.J. resident alleges that the township was negligent in causing his injuries following a fall from a bus.

Ruixiang Shen, a 71-year-old immigrant, was helping a wheelchair-bound woman off the township’s bus when he fell backward, breaking his neck in two separate places. As a result, Shen was hospitalized for months and is now paralyzed from the neck down.

The lawsuit contends that the bus driver, Rhonda Burton, did nothing to aid either Shen or the woman in getting off the bus, and that the city was negligent in failing to provide handicap-friendly buses and in failing to properly maintain its equipment.
